have been looking at scooby power compared to vw power for the bus, i know it's wrong.
all comments welcome pros and cons of goining down both avenue's

pros - subaru engine costs around the same as a set of idas
reliable power straight out the packet
that amazing sound Smile

plenty of parts available and easy to upgrade

cons - the purists will hate you
ummmmm is there anything else?

u need an adaptor plate to do it properly - or better still - get an 091 box out of a late bay window - these are the 6rib boxes and are very strong

rjes engineering sell a bell housing kit that will allow you to use the original subaru starter clutch and flywheel so no need for adaptors and modified flywheels etc

then the only issue then is cooling to the rad there are many different ways to go about it

a n/a subaru engine has around 145 bhp - how much does a built aircooled have for the same price?

spoke to dc autos the other day he reckons 280+ on a inported engine with some work, possable 13teens in a stripped out bus. Very Happy

yeah sounds about right - imports have high bhp but then u have the added issues of only being able to use japanese domestic market(jdm) wiring diagrams etc

people are converting them however

it all depends on your budget as well dude - these convesions can be done for very little money if your willing to put in all the work or at least some of it

turbos are issues as u will have to cut up a load of the rear end for clearancing if you dont want to run custom headers etc

as is the sump - they hang very low which is an issue if you have gone lower

to be honest ive heard some great things about the NA engines and they are running 145 standard - my plan is to run a n/a engine to start with - get used to 150 off ponies( you gain more because u lose the power steering and aircon)

then build a nice spec'd JDM motor with a turbo and take my time over it - i want the engines to be "plug and play" so all i have to do is drop and re fit add a few wires together and away we fly Smile

I think its an awesome idea, if i was going to upgrade my bus engine it would be scooby powered.

just do lots of reasurch first.
