Right here goes - i picked this car up on the 1st of june with the intention of daily drivering it for the rest of my time in uni.
which thinking about it is a daft idea! - The car currently has 1 lady owner from new - and has full service history which i am going to type up next time it rains! i have the original reciept of purchace from the cardiff dealer and stamps for servicing in VW for 10 years - the old lady died at the age of 97 and put about 1k on the car in the final 10 years up to 2005 when the car was retired. with 34,000 miles on the clock!
From what i gather the car was only used as a back and forth to the shops and a church run every so often - it was MOT'd and serviced every year and the bills all add up to a large amount.
now with all that good stuff u must be thinking where is the bad - well its right here
70's metallic paint (optional extra for 16 quid) is SHITE it always flaked off and looked bollocks straight away - and this car is no exception to that - the roof bonnet and top of the wings/lights have all got this wonderful patina to them. the rear wings have taken a bump during the cars life but for a car of this age with this store thats not uncommon -
so you think there must be more? well not really the interior is the cleanest i have ever seen on a non restored car - as is the under bonnet area and the engine bay is spotless!
now im not one for stock beetles - nor am i a fan of the "fat chicks" or the fattys in general! and with a story such as this one im reluctant to give it a 6" narrowed beam and slam it on some baby fuchs! (how many nights have i thought about this) and decided it would be sacralidge!
so whats the plan i hear you all shout? -
im going to MOT it - bang on 12months (free) tax and then get it up for sale! I really dont need 2 classic cars and its a shame that i have just finished building the oval and something as rare as this crops up!
personally id leave it as it is but on its ass with some cool accessories - and the evil side of me is saying - full paint job and a tidy up and its an uber stock bug!!! and for these reasons im out Smile
